a possible solution may be closer than you think
Yahoo groups have groups for recycling going under various guises of Recycle they do seem quite widespread there might be one close by
also try freecycle.org both site have rules of no selling and I have had computers, video cards, tropical fish and even my trusty kyocera laser printer
