I don't bother with scrolling most of the time, just zoom out with the mouse wheel and zoom back in on whatever else you wanted. In KiCAD it's so quick to do it's as fast as scrolling anyway.

Works OK in Eagle too, although the zoom direction is 'backward' (if you use both, you'll know what I mean)

If you do actually want to use your scroll wheel to scroll, in KiCAD you can do so by holding Ctrl to zoom horizontally and Shift to scroll vertically. Not sure about Eagle.

Any decent software should be able to output a gerber file, in my opinion.

KiCAD also has a Mac version, but as we know, it doesn't work very well :(

Windows and Linux users are just fine, though.

Can you please provide links to what you feel are the best KiCAD library creation/conversion related freeware and other supplemental software for KiCAD? And on the KiCAD page, I see no mention of board size limitations. Is that correct?

But there are module generators online, and 3rd party libraries to download, and you can make your own parts very easily. There are also programs to convert Eagle libraries so it's not a huge problem.
