I made it a goal to recreate the board on a singing greeting card. You know the kind you open and a song start to play. But I need to get started with a project that is detailed enough for a newby like me. I am reading a book called Getting Started in Electronics by Forrest Mim. but I would really like to find a project to get started on.
The Mims book you have is a great place to start. The next thing you
want to read is volumes I - IV at allaboutcircuits.com.
To design your talking greeting card, you have two options. You could
locate one of the custom ICs actually used in commercial greeting
cards, or you could design from the ground up using a microcontroller.
As a newbie, you are probably best off with an Arduino here. I'd be
willing to bet that someone has already done something like this with
an Arduino if you want to take a peek at how this is done.
