Boy does everyone have their own ideas there. For sure way to make it work you need 3 things. Printer, paper, and a laminator.

Printer: HP P-1006 is a decent printer that works and sells around $100 or less. I think I paid $70 (??) for my printer shipped off ebay.

Paper: Boy are there a LOT of suggestions there. From slick magazine paper to HP Presentation laser Color paper. "IF" you really want success at first (or 2nd) attempt, then breakdown and order some toner transfer paper from pulsar.com. It will cost you $20 shipped - you can get it from Digikey for maybe $17 or $18 shipped? That is "only" 10 sheets of 8X11 paper, but that will last a LONG time. I've reused the same piece of paper several times, and you can cut it to smaller pieces to use. Print your PCB to plain paper, then cut a piece of toner transfer paper a tad larger and tape along top edge to run thru printer. That stuff just floats off in water.

Then by all means break down and spend $25 for a GBC personal laminator you're read on this site. http://tinyurl.com/yf4g9zq is the one we've purchased, model H-65.

"IF" you are serious about making PCB - you can start with the iron (as I did) try different things, but this is about what you'll wind up with.

Good luck and have fun.
