Gold plated straight header posts would be cheaper. A 40 pin strip
runs for less than $.50. Just pull the pins from the plastic. Pins
are .025" square and fit tightly in a 1/32" (.0312") hole. This is the
best substitute for .030" eyelets IMO. The chamfered ends and tight
fit allow for a flush setting on one side of the board. Fourteen are
shown in the shot below with four under the TQFP SMD;

Although they appear raised we're talking less than 5 thou since this
is just a thin film of solder with the tip of the post flush with the
pad. An end cutting flush wire cutter should be used on the other side
of the post.
