Subject: Toner Transfer Experiments

I have only recently started using photo paper because I got it free
with an hp inkjet but I put the paper "in a safe place" and only
recently found it again.
I did another quick test yesterday. The pack of paper came two sets
of 4 sheets, each slightly different finish and texture.
I tried the other sheet type (much more glossy finish) and found that
the toner barely sticks to the paper and that with care I could
scrape the toner off with a fingernail (too much scrubbing caused the
toner to smear into scratches in the paper finish. The paper didn't
pick up all the toner and so the fuser rolled the image over and over
but I used a backing sheet of normal paper and this caught this.
I wetted the paper to see what would happen and the glossy finish
turned to sticky slime. I woudl say that if I could get this paper to
print well, I would encounter problems when soaking, although the
ease with which I could scrape the toner off could indicate that I
might not need to soak...
I also tried the matte finish paper but with the printer set on
normal paper not transparency as I had it before. The transfer didn't
go very well. Feeling the printouts of the different printer
settings, on Normal, I could not feel any toner on the surface of the
paper but on Transparency, I could clearly feel the raised sections
where toner was on the paper.
It appears to me that success is a combination of paper and printer
setting, maybe you knew this already but different printers probably
have different settings.

With photo papers, do people think that matte or gloss finish works
better for them?
