The syncs are there in the output, they do not need to have
an input. Color and brightness are indeed inputs.
I feel that one step is missing: What do you want to be seen?
Hardware wise, composite and RGB will both be good outputs,
as your hardware will probably a computer monitor, or a TV,
or in performance situation, you might use a beamer.
I'm thinking of two analogue synth to screen convertors:
a oscilloscope and Pong, the tennis game. That was Analogue
synthesis. I guys you want something more musical then that.
In the scope, the closest thing to an image is xy projection
of two related sounds.
But do pwoooahp and tsyooowww actually look like
pwoooahp and tsyooowww on a scope?
The nice thing about filters is that they relate to the mouth,
to speech. So I was thinking of a sound spectrum to shape
convertor. That module would put a shape on the screen
when tsyooowww is played, that changes shape on changing
spectrum,
* for the ts
_ for the y
O for the ooo
o for the www
(let's say an A stands for a triangle with a wide base...)
What do you 'hear' when you see shape change like this: - o o A A - ?
XY control voltages will decide where the image moves to.
VW controls will move the shapes across the screen.
For the color, several controls will be usable.
Pitch to color is the easy way out, but colorcode
several musical layers will be more interesting.
How is your imagination triggered now?
