[sdiy] Video Synth Interface idea thingo

All this talk about video synths has really left me thinking. I mentioned
the idea on AH about an interface module that could be used in conjunction
with a standard modular synth (whatever that may be) to encode video
signals to be displayed on a standard TV. Here are some ideas for what
connections would be useful..

Inputs for the following:

RGB
Horizontal and Vertical sync
Chroma
Luminescence

Anything else that I have left out? I don't know very much as to what makes
up an NTSC/PAL video signal apart from what I've mentioned here.

Outputs:

Composite out
SVideo out?
RGB and sync component outs?

>From what others have mentioned, specialized IC's for synconrizing video
signals are no longer made, so a DSP of some sort is needed.

Also, what modules from a synthesizer are really useful in video synthesis?
I suspect modules which do logic functions would be extremely useful, and
analogue oscillators would need to go to much higher frequencies than in the
audio range.

I don't have the technical skills (for the moment anyway) to undertake such
a project, but I'd be interested in seeing how far we could take this :)
Analogue
(audio) synths are far more common than video ones, and if there was a small
box available that allowed new and old synths to do video stuff, it would be
very very intereting :)
