Although I think a nice looking unit might be preferrable
to an ugly one, I can't see that a bad sound is "less bad" 
than visual ugliness.  After all, once your sounds are 
committed to tape, nobody can see your beautiful case.  But 
they can hear the ugliness coming out of the speakers.  

For me, good sound wins over good looks.
