[sdiy] Flanger???

I'll let you know in a week or two, after I get some tape-to-tape
experiments going! I'm still thinking that the depth of the effect relies on
the matching of the characteristics of the audio paths in every respect
including saturation. I could be wrong, but this is part of the fun!

Best Regards,

Gene and List,
How about this:
Maybe part of what makes real reel-reel flanging sound so good is tape
saturation... which is a good-sounding kind of distortion, and both tape
units will be distorting in similar fashion... unlike the nasty-sounding
distortion that BBD's or digital delay units produce when
overdriven. If the levels are well-matched then deep notches
should be produced even when distorting...this is just a suggestion, I
have absolutely no experimental evidence to back this up.... Any
comments?
Mike
