I happen to've use that thing a lot.
I bought it to sample singers and stack up voices.
Each time the refrian comes by, I recorded it on top.
The footswitch input takes a sort to ground
to trigger. And you can always bring the switches
on top of the machine to the backside, and add
minijack sockets for connectivity.
Any switch will do then.

There's no midi, but a midi2cv will get it connected to
the real world anyway.

I like relais.
I drive it with relais from a handheld remote.
