Looking for patches, establishing patch "gallary"

Looking for patches, establishing patch "gallary"

2005-07-21 by h0merxxx

Hey there

I'm looking for patches for the cs-80, especially some of the vangelis
sounds from blade runner?
What are your methodes to store more then 4 patches?
I thought to take some pictures of the panael/silders when I found a
nice sound which is worth to remember.
What do you think maybe we should try to realize some kind of patch
library based on photos?

On a CS-80 the sounds VAngelis used are A LOT easy to build....especially since he mainly used presets!! GUITAR1, BASS,FLUTE, STRINGS4 , BRASS2 and FUNKY1-2-3-4 are the most used.....you lucky guy....

true, but of course you have the performance controls overriding parts of the preset so I'd
say the presets are a solid jumping off point rather than the instant sound he used

... and don't forget the Lexicon 224 ;-)

On establishing a patch gallery from photos:
If all of us started sending in pictures we would have different sizes and download times.

A more standard way would be to scan the patch sheet in the manual and upload it to the file section. Then we all could use that as a template and make marks with the help of MS Paint or some other graphic art tool and post them back in the Files or Photos section.
My manual's in Memphis and I'm not there at the moment.

Here you go: http://www.keyboardmuseum.com/ar/s/syda/syda.html ! Now
you just have to find one, assuming there were any working units ever built.

I think it would be great if someone makes up a simple, clean patch
sheet. I could set up a folder for them on the website. Let's do it!

SUGGESTION FOR TAKING DOWN/SHARING PATCHES

2005-07-22 by dscr22

Nice idea I think; I mentioned this briefly last November but
didn't get any responses.

I don't think a photo will work - easy to do but you'll either
be too far away to see the details, or you'll lose perspective
by being at an angle to different keyboard sections, or you'll
need the hassle of multiple photos...

Here's an easy text method I use. The idea is to denote the
slider settings relative to the tick marks, for instance the
"SPEED" one below (leftmost slider per custom patch) means
about 6 tenths of the way from the 3rd to 4th tick mark.

SPEED 3ticks + 60%
PWM 5 + 0%
PW 3 + 50%

SQUARE [ON]
SAW [OFF]

NOISE 0ticks + 0% (i.e. "OFF")

This is even easier for modified presets, as you don't have to
go through 24 sliders per patch.

Note that the global controllers are harder to estimate closely.
I denote those as like
RESONANCE 45% (meaning a little less than halfway "down").

The dials I denote as times on the clock... chorus depth 2:15,
speed 10:30, etc.

I think a simple text format is easier than editing a graphical
template in some painting application. No method is trivial
that's for sure, when you're talking about several dozen readings
per custom patch.

Now that sounds better than my idea of a blank patch sheet gif from the manual...and more exacting too. I like your % markings. That could work. : )

Re: SUGGESTION FOR TAKING DOWN/SHARING PATCHES

Thanks - it's not necessarily better, but certainly entails smaller
file sizes and completely ubiquitous editing application i.e. Word,
Notepad, etc. Also, arguably, it's easier to read & go set your
attack time 60% between notches 3&4 than take the extra step of
implicitly interpreting that from a picture and then making the
setting.

I looked back at the couple patches I took down this way after I got
the keyboard - by far the best one was not completely listed - seem
to have skipped voice #2. So maybe I'm a worthless idiot after all
(don't answer that).
