Thanks guys! I am absolutely no stranger at all to the recap operation. I have a lot of gear and have rebuilt several power supplies. Regarding the caps, should I go all out "Computer Grade"? What brands and temp ratings have you all used in your rebuilds? Has anyone ever tried the variac thing with an old synth? I was thinking I could ramp up the voltage over the course of about a day- but I wasn't really certain how the regulators would take to that. I thought you could ramp it up and then hit the reset line on the CPU but maybe that's just wishful thinking. Should the regulators be changed as well? I don't have the service manual to the CS-80. Can anyone tell me what the electrolytic values are? Where is the best place to obtain a copy of this legendary doc? cheers, [w] --- rj krohn <r_j_d_2.phila@...> wrote: > good instincts. changing the psu capacitors is not > too hard. youll probably have to order the > 5600mfd/40v caps, other values should be at your > local store. digikey is quick delivery/processing if > youre in the states, might as well get em all there. > > its always a smart preventative idea. seems like a > waste of time until that one time you power up > something, a cap fails, and you wind up burning out > something downstream. that's a REAL pain. been > there, it blows. > > Wayne Griffin <ingsoc_1979@...> wrote: > I have a CS-80 (#1480) that > hasn't been powered on in > years.
