I've got an SP-303, and that's why I want EMU to make a desktop
sampler so badly. The SP-303's sampling capabilities are very
limited. First off, you've only got 8 polyphony, so only 4 stereo
samples at a time, so that puts off use for 'real' drum kits. Also,
it can only have 32 samples available at any one time! The only way
to load new samples is to load them up in the middle of a
performance. This usually takes anywhere from 2 minutes to 10
minutes depending on the size of the sample bank. Kinda shitty if
you ask me. And it's only 16-bit capable and really picky about what
samples you upload to it. Also, the pads on the front aren't
velocity sensitive; you can only get that with MIDI.

In other words: It's a *somewhat* capable sampler with good FX on
it, but I want a sampler that can do MUCH MUCH more and am ultimately
left unsatisfied with the SP-303. I definately think EMU can bring
out a product (that even uses their Flash RAM!!!) in the SP-303 price
range (about $300) that would kick all sorts of ass. Hell, just make
an orange and purple one and you can bet that half the people on this
forum would buy it!

But until that happens, the SP-303 is the only product that I can
find that fits the "tabletop sampling/FX unit" niche that I'm looking
to fill to accompany my XL7...
