Emu XL-7 & MP-7 User's Group

I checked the archive and didn't find the answer I was looking for.
I just got my XL-7 a couple of days ago and have been losing every 
waking second to it.
One bit I have not been able to figure out yet is the roll function.
I understand that it can only be used in Record mode, (that is awful 
but I can deal with it), however, even in record mode I'm not 
hearing my roll as it is recorded.  It doesn't sound until the 
pattern loops through again.
This can't be right, what have I missed.  I was trying to lay down a 
progressive snare roll and every time I'd press the pad I wouldn't 
hear anything.
The next pass through the loop the roll would show up.  Is this 
really the case?  And will OS 2.0 allow play mode repeats?  That 
would be awesome!
