The ideal machine for great pads would be a Hartmann Neuron 
(http://www.hartmann-music.com) together with a sample CD containing 
pads, which the Neuron could create models of... but I assume you 
don't have that kind of money ($5000), hmmmmz... the best option 
could simply be a 128mb sampler and sample CD's containing pads. I 
think you should be able to find a cheap sampler nowdays...
