Unless, the Virus has a soft Thru, you'll be perpetually switching
between the Virus Out Port and the Virus Thru.  You can do this (I've
done it) but it's a royal pain in the ass.

Even if it does have soft thru (also known as merge), this screams
"MIDI loop" (if echo is on in Cubase).  At best, you'll have to
manually change the output channel on the keyboard to match Cubase, as
well as turning the volume down on the Virus when using the Orbit.

CPU out  ->  Virus In
Virus Out/Thru??? -> Orbit3 In
Orbit3 Thru -> CPU In

Better bet is to get a cheap 2x2 MIDI port (your second option I believe).
