Well, it sounds like you ARE doing it right, though do you have the latest
drivers? I use a Echo Layla24, and it locks to the XL-7's digital signal
with barely any issues (occasional pop, but I can draw those out).

Subject: Re: [xl7] Re: Horrible Noise!!!
Let me try to explain this again. I locked my Gina24 at each sample rate
available and still haven't gotten better results than a bunch of digital
noise. I have slaved my sound card per instructions of it's manual unless
I'm
missing something other than selecting spdif rca. So as you can see in
essence it does make sense, perfect sense in fact. I've spoken with the
tech
guy that I bought the machine from and he (allegedly) spoke with the
people
at EMU, and come to find out that the clock is too fast for some devices,
or
just isn't compatible. The next step is us calling Echo Monday. I'm under
the
belief that they just aren't compatible. My DAT (DA30 MKII) works
flawlessly
(without locking any sample rates) as well as my CD player w (digital
inputs)
to my sound card. I hooked the MP7 up to my AV receiver and it worked
flawlessly. The same with my Cd player. So you got me. I'm thrown for a
huge
ass loop. They both work, but won't work together. The analog outs are
quiet
though........
