The question came up at an XX-7 seminar at the Guitar Center here in STL; we were told it couldn't burn ROMs.

The XX-7 doesn't have the capability to burn ROMs, so sending the sounds via USB wouldn't do any good; it will only recognize .smf files and XX-7 preset files, hence you'll still need an E4 around to do any burning.
