You mean recording a part to act as if it were the metronome?

first thing I want to say is I almost always just replace the 
metronome a more musical sound in one of my presets.  By dooing this 
you can change the volume and the type of sound so you can hear it 
in whatever situation you are in.

I just don't see this as a issue. But that is just me.

If you are recording patterns are you not going into record mode?
