So what were the 3rd and 4th ROM you added?

Also, I am sure there are some internal fuses in the command station, maybe mis-seating took out a fuse (hopefully not a chip).....

Hi, All!

I am a new member to the group. I need some advice.

I bought an XL-7 in perfect condition a couple of weeks ago. I added a second ROM card and everything was fine. Today, I tried to add a third and fourth ROM card and had troubles getting the unit to work again. I was having some difficulty getting the ROM cards seated, so it is possible that I may have accidentally shorted something out. At first, the display and all buttons were unlit, but there was a faint clock sound from the headphones. Now there's no sound either.

Taking out the new ROM cards didn't solve the problem. Changing their position in the 4 slots didn't help either. I've checked to make sure all cables are seated, etc. The only thing I could find that looked suspicions was some white residue around one of the smallest IC chips. I honestly don't know if the residue was already there before I began tinkering or not. Also, there's one mid-sized IC socket near the middle of the board that has no IC plugged into it. Again, I don't know if it was already like that before I installed the ROM cards.

Do any of you have troubleshooting suggestions? If not, is it cost effective to have an XL-7 repaired? Any idea who can repair them? Would I be better off just buying another one?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
