Basically groovebox refers to any piece of musical equipment designed for producing electronic music completely without the aid of external gear. The contest was originally started on the mc505 list (we have lots of fun contests), but we're opening it up to members of this list as well. Sort of a healthy competition between rival boxes :) So far any of the following are cool to use, although if you've got questions about using something else, feel free to ask, I'm sure I missed some: Command Stations, mc505, mc307, mc303, EA-1, ER-1, EM-1, and RM1x. We're not allowing any sampling boxes (sorry, no MPC's), as those would allow people to use computers, plug ins, other gear to tweak samples and then load them into the box, which defeats the purpose of this contest. Basically you must create a <7 minute track completely within the unit, by using song mode, or by recording the "performance" of a pattern. The final recording cannot be mastered or touched up at all, only converted directly to a MP3 and uploaded to the contest site no later than April 7th. For all the details, check out the site at: http://grooveboxcontest.iuma.com I personally think we could kick ass and take names, but we need to get some people to participate first! There's a lot of people on this list, but everyone's so quiet! rEalm sounds good,,,,,,,, what do you mean only with grooveboxes... only a Xl-7 or MP-7... or instruments from other manufracturers?.........where is the beginning and where is the end of a groovebox????? my Jomox XBase09 or da Virusb is also extremly grovin *gggggg* greeetz
