If you get the the digest, you may have seen my post from a couple of days ago thanking those who raised and discussed this issue. [See below.] I deleted it about 15 minutes after I posted it (1) because I wasn't sure my enthusiasm was warranted and (2) because I couldn't believe that the usb drivers were finally working. Well, so far so good. Also, I thought I'd share what I found in case it helps others to get e-loader up and running. Here's what I found (so far): 1. If I boot the computer with my E-Mu on, the usb drivers do NOT get installed/the hardware is not available via usb. (So I waited until the computer is FULLY booted up.) 2. Initially, the New Hardware Status bubble popped up saying USB device not recognized. However, this went away within seconds. 3. When I check Device Manager, I have the following devices that I did not have before I powered up the E-Mu: E-Mu device, Interface 0 E-Mu device, Interface 1 USB Composite Device. [I am not sure if the 3rd device is actually the E-Mu*. My Xmidi2x2 interface which came with Proteus X2 shows up as a USB Composite Device; so I now have 2 such devices listed. *Just double checked and I think it IS for the E-Mu: All 3 devices have the basic Hardware ID listed in Device Manager --> Details. Maybe the Xmidi2x2 driver has something that made the E-Mu usb drivers install properly.] 4. Evidently part of Kaspersky Internet Security includes a device driver for usb devices (klfltdev.sys). It shows up under device details for ALL my usb devices. I mention this because who knows, maybe it is Kaspersky's usb device monitoring that made my E-Mu usb drivers install correctly after all these years. (They have a 30 day free-trial if you want to check it out.) 5. 844KB of pattern data took 7'35" to download to computer via midi; It took 1'56" via usb. [Bank name lists also load much quicker.] Finally, remember that e-loader uses java, so you may want to make sure there are no problems with java on your computer. If you can install e-loader, there is a built in java console window that might be helpful. Also, at one point yesterday morning, I had a problem with e-loader and a error log was created in my pattern storage folder (hs_err_pid###). I am not sure why the error happened. As I said, I have no idea why the usb drivers finally installed correctly this time (SP3?, System Mechanic?, Xmidi2x2?, Kaspersky?), but I am very grateful for the discussion. (And to be honest, if Tom hadn't had such a bad day a few days back, I wouldn't have even tried to do anything with e-loader! So again, sorry you had a bad day, but I guess there's gotta be a good side to everything.) Hope this helps others to get e-loader up and running. --Steve =============================================================== Posted by: "steve_the_composer" Fri Feb 20, 2009 7:09 pm (PST) First of all, a big, gigantic thank you for raising this issue and to others who chimed in!!!!!!!!! If you read my recent posts, you know that I had tried installing the E-Mu usb drivers on my XP PC several times over the past several years--each time without success and always with the frustration that comes with following installation instructions exactly (time after time after time) only to get an error message. Well, prompted by the current discussion, I tried it again, and it worked!!!!!! I have absoluetly no idea why. (I wish I could tell you.) Maybe SP3 fixed something with the usb enumeration/ new hardware process. Maybe some automatic update fixed something. Maybe System Mechanic (which I have used for a year or so) fixed something. I have no idea. E-Loader (including the usb drivers and the java files) are in the same where I put them in 2004. The instructions I followed were exactly the same over the years. I did nothing different. I guess the only advice I can give to others trying to get e-loader working is to keep trying--even years after you've given up. --Steve --- In xl7@yahoogroups. com, "Christopher" <outlaw_artist@ ...> wrote: > > Hello Everyone, > > I just wanted to say "hellO " I am a new owner of a Command Station > XL-7, I've tried every work-around and just about every operating > system below 9.2.2 for Apple to try to get > eLoader to fire and it's still a no go!
