Proteum Upgraded to version 1.26

2008-07-07 by Keith Young

(Apologies to people who have read this note on another P2K-related
group, but not everyone reads them all. Please ignore it, if you have
already seen it).

I have uploaded a new version of Proteum to my web site. Version 1.26
of Proteum contains some fixes to the MIDI communication code that
may have been giving people some problems. There are also a number of
minor bug fixes and better support for multi-user setups.

There are also a number of enhancements. I have added a Randomise
Preset option (the second most requested feature from users), but the
main area of change is in the File Load/Save and new Import/Export
functions.

Proteum can now directly read Proteus SysEx Preset Dumps removing the
need for the XML Preset files (though they are still supported). I
have also added an Export/Import facility that allow you to export a
preset or part of preset as a SysEx dump and the ability to reimport
them later to the edit buffer. So, for example, if you find a good
combination of FX parameters, you can save them separately and apply
them to other patches.

There are also many improvements to saving the Edit Buffer so it
should be much faster and less susceptible to differences in the
various products supported.

By the way, the most requested enhancement I have received is support
for Mac OSX. However, I have no experience of developing for the Mac
and no Mac for testing the software, so I cannot really help. If
there is a Mac developer out there who has the tools, equipment, the
time and the inclination to do a free port to the Mac, contact me
here or at the web site and I'll discuss.

The installation zip file is also improved with a fuller history and
a ReadMe with installation instructions.

To get the new version, navigate to:

Scroll to bottom, select the Proteum link and you should find the
software.

Unfortunately, given there are now around 1500 users, the web server
is likely to become very busy over the next few days, so please be
patient.
