A gameport MIDI adapter is a good inexpensive choice as long as your computer has a gameport, like on the back of an ancient, outdated 16 bit soundblaster sound card. Most computers I have seen that are anywhere near new dont have a gameport because USB is now used for game controllers rather than gameports. I have a vaio laptop and unfortunely it doesn't have game port. > It is likely that the XL-7 requires communication back to the computer to properly complete the preset upload, especially if you are seeing some activity on the midi out of the XL-7. Its trying to talk to whatever is loading the presets into it and getting no proper reply. This could be true for dumping sysex through midiox, but I have a midi file with embedded sysex, so I have to use a midiplayer such as cubase, and I doubt that cubase "wait" for some answer from the xl-7. Maybe is there a method to exatract sysex from midi file and dump them with midiox? > The Evolution midi controller i have has only a MIDI out (no in) but has a USB midi out as well. I don't believe the one I have (MK249c) is designed to receive MIDI over USB and retransmit it through the MIDI out but it sounds like yours is. We have the same keyboard and I can assure you that you can do that. you have to press the first two button untill you see "yes" in the the little blu screen. I've done it many times to transmit midi events to my asr-x. but for sysex doesn't work very well : ) > You should also make sure before buying anything else that you try to transmit the presets with nothing else connected to the USB bus. That means mouse, keybaord, etc. Dont touch the controls or keys on the Evolution while you are doing it, etc. yes I've tried > Sometimes the solution to a problem is to just use the right tools. I'm thinking to buy a real midi interface... I'm just spending to many time on this problem! > --------------------------------- > Yahoo! for Good > Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
