divide the chunks?

I wrote sounddiver, not sounddriver. It's an editor/librarian program. It's expensive for the full version but a free, single synth one came with the FIZMO. When you load up sysex data to be sent, you can see the characters in little windows, divided into 'pages'. I just sent one page at a time. In the case of the FIZMO, it uses a handshake protocol to acknowledge receipt of each part of the sysex transmission and subsequently requests the next part. If you just blindly stream the whole sysex message into it then it won't take. I don't know if the xx-7 does it that way, but I thought I would mention the process I went through with another device that is choosy about how it receives midi streams.

There are also several freeware sysex sending utilities that give you better control than windows media player. Just do a search for 'freeware sysex' from Google or check this URL:

interface) only has a midi out, so I cannot record midi flow on my
computer, and I cannot do some usefull test like dump sysex from my
xl-7 to pc and back.

I have an Evolution MK249c controller, so I know what you mean (I dont use it for an assortment of reasons..like the pause between changing patches and no aftertouch)

What do you use to hook your computer to the xx-7? The Midi stream goes out of the Evolution into the xx-7 and then what does it do? Go out of the xx-7 into the computer? Where does it go in? If you have a Midi in on the computer then you presumably also have a Midi out. Just temporarily disconnect the Midi cable from the Evolution and put it on the PC Midi out....when the transmission or test is done, then just switch the cable back.

You could also get a little 2x2 midi junction box or cheap router/switch and have both hooked up.
