this is getting silly but to complete that which i willingly engaged in: yeah - you didn't say most of this stuff (remote in the park recording or on-the-run DJ proposals, altho for the latter I think that is one of the reasons that god invented the CD and the ipod...). For recording squirrels in the park - you could spend a couple g's or a couple hundred and come out with results that are hard to differentiate and in this regard I am thinking of the new uncompressed MD format that Sony has just released. That plus a reasonable but not too expensive stereo condenser mic will bring you seriously great results - and will weigh less than a pound. you cannot compare an ATA flight case with the raw weight of the computer - be it desktop or laptop. Either one in an ATA flight case will be a lot heavier. There are carry bags for the shuttle s which - just like a laptop - would allow you to take the thing as a carry-on In local work I put the cpu in a $6 rubbermaid tote + pieces of non-static foam. I have doing this for years - including my XL7 and Electribes and Kaoss boxes - never a problem and extremely lightweight. For actual flight - I put the stuff in a $15 Rubbermade camping-tote, with foam - in many years of doing this - no problems. if you want to get some insights from many other users who have wrestled with the same questions I suggest gearslutz.com - nothing like the voice(s) of experience good luck --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "||||* *||||" <trabantmusic@h...> wrote: > the firewirecard gets power by the port, the headphones dont need power at > all. > i didnt say that id like to record on the street, in parks... with a laptop > i can do this [with a dinamic mic if the card has an mic preamp] > further i can move around without a car for dj proposales... > > What kind of flightcase and monitor do you use to have the same weight than > a laptop? > > > ----Original Message Follows---- > From: "vibesart" <edmann@p...> > Reply-To: xl7@yahoogroups.com > To: xl7@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [xl7] Re: OT Laptops2 > Date: Sat, 28 Aug 2004 14:12:21 -0000 > > a shuttle-case based PC is no heavier than a laptop if you add in the > weight of the external PS....what other part of your rig works > unplugged?
