After typing the following replies, I thought of something. Just so you know, changing the length of a step *does NOT* alter the linear song track. You have to explicitly cut and paste in the linear track to move events. If that's not what you're experiencing, nevermind. I'd recommend recreating the pattern chain first (i.e. song mode step edit) and saving that to two locations (so you have a handy backup).
