Unfortunately, song mode was the sort of bastard step-child that never
really got enough attention.  It's kinda buggy.  Robatchas is right
though, try recreating the song steps in a different song.  If need be,
you can copy any song track from the original with copy/paste.  I'd
save a version without the song track before you paste, just in case. 
For those who might be wondering, the sequencer architecture makes
changing step lengths complicated, so it was always the buggiest
aspect.  Given xmix vs song step edit tweaks, we chose xmix, and I
think I'd make the same choice again.  Too little time, too much to
do... =)
