I created the soundset on my E5000 Ultra. Everything sounds great and works like it should for the most part. One problem I am having though is that *some* of the multisamples I created on my E5000 did not transfer correctly to my XL7. It's true that only a subset of the preset parameters get translated to the Proteus flash banks, but that is not what my problem is. Here's my attempt at describing it: I have three presets that I made from sampling other keyboards in my studio. Each of the three presents have 4 samples that are mapped across the keyboard. All three presets sound fine on my E5000. All three have similar crossfade structures based on key position (not velocity). For some reason, two of them sound perfect on the XL7 but one of them only has one of its four samples mapped across the entire key range. I think there is something going wrong when my E5000 writes to the BABY FLASH portion of the Flash card (see the Sound Authoring .pdf on the EMU website for an explanation of BABY FLASH). I'm thinking that I just need to burn the flash again and see if it comes out correctly. Other than that minor glitch, I have to say that the flash authoring works fantastic as advertised. The sound quality is excellent. Overall a fairly painless process. > I have an E4XT sampler. Could I create FLASH ROMs for the XL7/MP7 > with it, or do I *have* to have an E4 Ultra? I'm not sure, but I think you need an Ultra. If I'm correct, and you don't happen to own an Ultra, I would suggest that you create the bank on your E4 and take it on ZIP disk or CD-R to a music store. If they're cool, then they will let you create your band on one of their Ultras. It would probably be best to buy your XL7 from a local store so they would be more likely to do this. > Also, my E4XT has a 16Mb(or 32?) Orbit/Phatt expansion ROM in it. > Could that be transferred to the XL7/MP7, too? Maybe, but I doubt it. One of the first things I tried when I got my XL7 was to take the Orbit ROM out of my E5000 and stick it in my XL7. The XL7 didn't read it. I Haven't found a way to copy the Orbit samples to the Flash. It doesn't matter too much to me though because my custom samples are the most critical ones for my live show (I burned them on the Flash). The XL7 has really excellent samples on it's internal ROM and I just use them for my live show. - A.
