Hi,

From your description I'm not sure you have fully understood the
capabilities of Ableton Live. I downloaded the demo a while back and am
pretty sure it can't do some of the things you're saying. You can sync it to
midi clock, and you can use a midi controller to control it but as far as I
know you can't 'come up with a beat then take that sequence and assign what
ever sounds (you) want to use instead of the ones (you) used on the mp-7'.

I might be wrong tho. Are there any Ableton Live owners on the list who can
enlighten us?

Regards,

Stu

well live by ableton is a great software gernerally focuse at sampling and
sequencing multiple tracks. It,ll let me record multi track guitar tracks
and let me chain together multiple internal pro quality effects and. I can
take loops I create or otherwise get my hands on and multi track sequence
as a live performance chop up or just apply cool effects to them. But What I
really enjoy About the software is the ability to take individual samples
meaning drum hits or abstract sounds and let me take my sequencer meaning
MP-7 and use the sequences i created on the mp-7 as templates for creating
new kits. I could use the crappy kits on my meager 16 mb of mp-7 (without
the phatt rom) and come up with a beat then take that sequence and assign
what ever sounds I want to use instead of the ones I used on the mp-7 all
this is done with midi and is not really too groundbreaking really but the
scale at which this is accomplished is really amazing to say the least.. so
basiclly with my mp-7 and a midi cable to my pentium 4 pc running ableton I
have almost basically one of those akai mpc 3000 except this is a way
supercharged version and maybe lacking to some extent but the general idea
is just exagerated to become the ultimate sequencing and sampling and yes
synthesis machine at under $ 2000 give or take a few hundred
