Question about differences

Question about differences

2004-05-04 by chorus72000

Hi All, 7 here. Does anyone own both Wiard and Blacet stuff? I'm
wondering how they compare? Sound? VCO's? Filters? Build quality...etc
If anyone has the time I'd be thankfull for some info = )... Thanks
in advance...

I have a large collection of Blacet modules, 12 Wiard 300 series modules, and
a collection of Wiard 1200 series modules.

What exactly would you like to know?

Build quality on both are excellent! The only Blacet module that seems a little
flimsy is the multiple module and that is only because of the non-front-panel-
secured jacks. NONE of the other Blacet or Wiard modules have this problem.

VCO's are different (between the Blacet and the Wiard 300 VCOs) but both have
their unique features and sound.

The Wiard filters (both the Borg and the Filter) are, IMHO, nicer sounding than
either the Blacet Final Filter or the Filthy Filter and generally more functional
and more interesting. That said, the Blacet filters aren't bad, just not very
exciting (again this is very subjective).

The envelope generators of both systems are unique and very interesting.

It's hard to compare the Mixolator with something like the Blacet quad VCA
module. They both have their advantages.

There is nothing like the Woggle Bug, the Noise Ring, or the JAG!
This can be said for the Time Machine (in modular form anyway) and the Binary Zone.

It must also be said that all the modules work well with each other.

If you have a specific question, I'd be glad to try my hand at an answer.

There is no overlap between the Wiard 1200 series and the
Blacet modules. Blacet makes the "bread and butter" modules
such as the VCO and Mini-Wave. Wiard makes the "exotic"
modules such as the Noise Ring and JAG.

The two sets of modules are completely compatable in
mechanical format, electrical specification and power
connectors.

The 300 series is out pf production of course and is only
available by special order for extremely high prices.

Hi 7 Here. Thanks for the replys = )... Love a group that respondes!
So here's the deal I have four 300 series ( Hi Grant its Joe ) I
honestly love these things but I HATE having an incomplete set (
sound dumb but at least I addmit to it ) I've been trying to save for
the last two moduls ( Sequentise and Woggle ) but it dosn't seem to
be happening and as we all know time is short ( VERY few left ) and
the price is steep ( sorry Grant its a great price for what you get
but steep for me ) So a good friend of mine, also a Wiard fan wants
my 300's, so I was think of getting the cash for the 300's and
investing in a Blacet/1200 system instead...That way I can buy a
module at a time but the price being 100 to 250 range instead of the
479 + range... So I guess my question is any advice??? For the record
I have the ClasVCO, Borg, Envlat and WaveCity ( which is the shining
star of the collectin ) Anyways long letter and many thanks in
advance for any advice...

7 ( Joe )

So, no more 300 series? Not at reasonable prices, anyway?

I was planning on ordering at least 2 very soon to complete my rack...

Thanks,

Rob Adams
