Re: joystick

2002-05-24 by gcmci

I presently am waiting on a 12 module system. I have one (Borg), soon
to have my second module (Envelator). When I ordered, there were about
40 modules ahead of me. Since then, Grant has peeled off about 25 of
them, while finishing my second module. When do I expect him to
completely deliver the system? I don't know, but I am not worried.

In telephone conversations with Grant, we have talked a lot about stuff
- here is what he said;

One thing to note - I paid in full. In order for Grant to sell these
modules for the price he sells them at, he has to make a minmum run of
faceplates, boards, etc. If you order a 6 module system and Grant is
out of stock, Grant has to lay out the capital to have 10-20 faceplates
made, 10-20 boards ordered, components stocked. By paying up front, it
helps him to keep the production situation moving (instead of at a
standstill waiting for parts). I have ordered several modules, but
still, it is only perhaps 2 or 3 faceplates out of a total run of 10 or
so per module.

It is for this reason that he discontinued the controller. The end of
the joystick controller was a result of lack of interest and the
expense of making a minimum buy to stock the components (the volt meter
being the most expensive piece).

The 200 series Buchla run was about 400 modules, and Grant has already
built, tested and sold 300 modules. (You can draw your own conclusions
about what that means). I intend to own Wiard System. Who knows what
will happen in the future?

There will not be kits - it devalues the product. Presently, Wiard
devices used are more valuable that new ones - because you don't have
to wait. Historicaly, kits undermine the quality of the used market
(is this factory built, or was this made by a novice?)

Gotta go, but that's what he has told me.

regards,

gary chang
