Hi Doc, Thanks for the note. I've finally figured out the Yahoo group problems I had: thanks to everyone who sent suggestions. You wrote: <<BTW Thank you for the lavish overview of analog modulars in EM a few months back. >> It was my pleasure, let me assure you! :-) Talk about a dream gig: I couldn't believe it when the main editor here accepted my proposal to do a large feature on the current crop of analog modular and semi-modular synths. There are SO many companies making modular/semi-modular stuff at the moment, it's astounding. Granted, it's because of the intrepid few that persist in coming up with creative solutions to sound making against all economic odds... The original article was almost twice as big as what got published due to the number of companies, the number of modules, all the tiny details, etc. I was finally asked to trim the piece so that other features could run in the April issue as well! Trimming was a painful experience, but I'm pretty sure each company got fair coverage. But I will say that it was fun to use many of the current synths available. However, I didn't get to hear everything (or even 50% of what's out there). The biggest problem is that the companies that make analog modules do so in relatively small quantities, so it was impossible for most of them to send me a review system to work with while writing. Of course, it is easier and more fun to write about a system that I could play with. :-) Thanks to Grant who sent a Wiard system for evaluation (and the upcoming review)... The NAMM show in February gave me a chance to hear a variety of systems back to back because so many manufacturers were represented: Analog Systems, Analog Solutions, Doepfer, Evenfall, Encore, Metasonix, Technosaurus, Synthesis Technology (did I forget someone?). It was an amazing number of modular synth gear to see in one trade show-- it might even be a record of some sort. I missed the AH party, so I didn't get to see and hear additional goodies like the Serge. To avoid the noise during the show hours, I got in a little early each day to spend some time with some of the instruments and manufacturers in order to get a personal tour for researching the article. That gave me a chance to learn, for example, about all of those Doepfer modules that people either love or hate. Anyway, because this is the Wiardgroup, I'll stop there and return you now to the regular scheduled programming... cheers, ginorobair > ---------- > From: drmabuce@yahoo.com > Reply To: wiardgroup@yahoogroups.com > Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2001 12:17 PM > To: wiardgroup@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [wiardgroup] Re: Yahoo address > > Hi Gino, > In all of the egroups I join, I take my messages in the group > only, never in an email box.... so, I don't know the answer to your > question because I never select the email option... sorry > I'll hazard a guess that Yahoo will default to post in their > OWN box , set up as the primary addr. and they have made it sticky to > use a non-Yahoo box as the primary email addr.vis-a-vis the original > problem. > If you are brave and patient (& I'm neither) you might be able to > establish a secondary (non-Yahoo) email address in your Yahoo profile > and ask then to post your messages to that.
