We were out playing again on Saturday, this time in Burton-on-Trent, UK. Here are 2 pics of me setting up: http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k139/filby22/Awakenings%20Feb%2008/aw23.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k139/filby22/Awakenings%20Feb%2008/aw44.jpg Pics taken during performance: http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k139/filby22/Awakenings%20Feb%2008/aw49.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k139/filby22/Awakenings%20Feb%2008/aw54.jpg ...we were told that the hall had a decent DVD projector setup, I was going to do a compilation of B&W Busby Berkeley routines, but I didn't have enough time, so I took my DVD of Murnau's "Faust" down, and we projected that while we were playing. It worked really well! People dug the film, though you can't really go wrong with Murnau. I got the urge to do a solo accompaniment to a Norma Talmadge or Pola Negri film at some point in the future, and the gig organiser seemed up for it. Patches used were: 1/binary zone "step up" sequence via blacet frequenct divider and borg filter 2/8-step sequence via boogie filter. I stuck a patch cord into output 4 and plugged it a little way into the reset input of the sequantise. Thus I could either run an 8-step sequence or open up the filter cutodd and the VCA level and have a choice of three drone notes. I run the sequantiser from one of the pads on an old Korg DDD1 drum machine, and I found that if I pulled the time expand knobswitch out on the envelator, and tapped the pad, I got this huge taurus-esque bass pedal sound. The 2-pole output of the boogie filter sounds so rich and big, I find. I used a single blacet VCO as a source for this patch, and used the smooth CV out from one of the wogglebugs to animate the pulse width. This seems to give the sound a better feel than just using a sin or tri LFO, I think? More interesting 3/quantised noise ring out VC- VCO via ring modulator and borg filter It all sounded good, and as usual I was impressed with the amount of different sounds I could get out of a 3-VCO setup. I have the dual envelator this time as well as all the other stuff, and feel like I get a better vactrol filter twang sound by using that to modulate the borg filter cutoffs than with the other envelopes I've been using up to now (Blacet EG1, AR envelopes on Wave City modules, AD envelope on Blacet final filtre) A couple of guys in the audience were recording, I asked them to send me the recordings they made, we'll see. I don't have anything right now, sorry!
