Out in London on Sunday evening, playing a 6-band festival with a bunch of indie-ish bands, all of whom were great. People dug our set, and a load of people asked about the modular, people were blown away by the noises it made. Yet again I present a bunch of flickr pics w/no audio evidence - I'm sorry! The event was under "festival rules" IE very little time to set up: http://www.flickr.com/photos/16804034@N00/sets/72157600394601327/ Someone from the audience (she plays in a great pastoral psych band from Nottingham, UK called the chemistry experiment) took a few more: http://www.flickr.com/photos/missekawasaki/565833361/in/set-72157600392277366/ The modular was split out into 4 sound-generating, uh, cells: 1 - Step-up sequencer: Binary Zone ->Wave City1 VCO ->freq divider -> omni filter ->Quad mix/VCA 2 Bass sequencer: Sequantizer -> Wave City2 VCO ->Final Filtre ->Wave CityVCA ->Quad mix/VCA 3 Mighty Bass Drone: Blacet VCO & Borg Filter VCO2 -> Boogie filter Boogie filter cutoff controlled by Borg VCO1 and W/bug smooth CV 4 space chatter: W/bug out ->Borg 1 in (HP, high res)->borg 2 in (LP)->quad VCA/mix Borg 1 cutoff controlled by w/bug woggle CV out, Borg 2 cutoff controlled by EG1 out. Decay on EG1 controlled by w/bug step CV out. Step-up sequencer & space chatter went through Blacet Time Machine as well. It worked really well - what I have learned: 1/the wogglebug noise can be problematic, as it is so unpredictable - you hear a tiny little chattering noise so you turn it up to hear it better and the thing suddenly goes FLAAAAAAA at massive volume, and yr musical collaborator gives you the evil eye. This can be completely tamed by steeply high-pass filtering it. Turning the HP res up till it's almost self oscillating and controlling the HP freq with a woggle CV out makes it sound like something alive. 2/Setting the thing up is easy - notate the patch via a list of connections, underline the connections that go between cabinets in red, then unplug those ones, most important, when replugging/setting up, DON'T HURRY. 3/ a guitar tuner = essential. Best etc.
