50 years ago...
this is what was going on-
A judge in Jacksonville declared that a kid who'd just performed a
short opening set for Hank Ballard at a small local dance hall was 'a
savage' and threatened to have him arrested if he returned to Florida.
That same savage, (a fellow named Elvis Presley) had just played a
barn-burner of a gig in Lubbock and inspired an ambitious local
guitarist to seek a record contract which Decca awarded him within the
year... 1956. 
  After hearing his name on the radio he decided that he should
perform as 'Buddy Holly' rather than Charles Holley.
