Re: Omni Filter - is it worth the money? Looking for opinions

2004-09-01 by Gary Chang

Like the Buchla, I think that the "classic" Wiard patch has two
filters in the circuit. In the Buchla, it is the bandpass filter and
the lowpass gate. In the Wiard, it is the Omni and the Borg. I use
them in tandem in every patch.

When using the Omni as the featured filter, I will use the Borgs as
resonators or as a gate (vca). When using the Borg as the featured
filter, I use the Omni as a phaser in allpass mode.

Is it worth the money? It takes a mixolator to get tame the Borg
(input mixing and attenuation, and cv processing), most of which is
incorporated in the Omni. The constant q circuit in latter day Omnis
allows for extremely high q settings without the filter squeeling when
driven to higher frequencies. (I have sent my Borgs into oscillation).
