TR 606 cymbal ringing endlessly (hanging)

Hi all,
don't know if anyone has encountered this before however the open hihat on this 606 i've got is always on. the potentiometer can adjust the volume but it runs endlessly no matter how it's sequenced.
any ideas where to start searching inside to address this problem?
