Roland TR606 - hihat always on (ringing)

Hey all,
Trying to figure out where to start on this TR606 that has an open hihat that is always ringing on in a rapid fire noise like fashion.
The potentiometer can adjust the volume as it should so it doesn't appear to be that.
Has anyone encountered such a problem and could direct me where to search inside?
