Sandblaster?  ;-)  It depends on the amount of tar in the goo mixture, but I've had great luck with an air compressor from the local gas station.  A drummer I used to know turned me on to that trick, and I didn't believe him... until he got rid of ten years of gunk out of six power amps.  They were literally as clean as new.

Perhaps someone else has a better suggestion if there's a bunch of tar in the goo, but it's worth a try.
