RE: [vintagesynthrepair] Kurzweil K2000 questions

2004-12-05 by Keith Niver

Try DGarvin@... Duane is the service rep for Kurzweil (recently
purchased by Samick). He might be able to supply both manual and backlight.
You can also try www.telesisbacklights.com (?) for the part, or send them
yours and they can repair it. You can also try www.mitatechs.com and look
under the membership lists for a tech near you and for parts sources. Hope
this helps.

Hi there.

there are a few sites providing backlights like backlights.co.uk. I replaced
mine recently and took some photos. I'm happy to share them with you once
you found the part. It is not that difficult but requires care and a bit of
soldering.

I got a Kurzweil K2000 with the sampling option early this year and promptly

upgraded it to the latest OS and max sample ram, and it's been running
great.

However, the LCD backlight has become so dim as to be practically
unreadable, and due to a cramped studio space I can't easily find a way to
shine a light directly onto the screen, so;

1. How difficult/expensive is it to replace/repair the backlight?

2. Where would I source the parts (I'm in Australia, but don't mind shipping

things from overseas)

3. Where can I get a service manual, so I've got some sort of guidelines to
follow?

My technical skills are, well let's say I know which end of the soldering
iron to hold and that's about it.

Thanks,
Gwydi
