I ordered the vfd from Noritake.com.... they were very nice, I filled
out a pdf and they shipped it like 3 days ago.... I can't wait!

ill post back with some pics later... the part is:

CU16025ECPB-W2J-N02

also so we dont all have the same color screen, there are filters
available.... I got dibs on brown!!

later,
ben

ben,

thanks.. ive been wondering on the exact part number.. ive guessed at
the one you stated.. it seemed the logical one. thanks man. im
definetely going to do it. the pic on matrix synth looked way to nice.
plus that machine deserves it. its such a freak.. :) i may have to get
a red filter to match the colour scheme.. but the green is bad too..
remids me of the xpanders.
also if you want i can foreward all info after i assemble and test the
cf card/hd mod add-on.?

thanks man!

ben,

im wondering when you did yours did you use the 3 lead (power???)
connection on the vfd? i know the lcd had a special power lead just
for it, but im not sure if the vfd uses the same thing or what exactly
is the set up for it. the vfd (power? i assume???) jack has 3 tiny
poles. the 440 lcd had 2 . do these get connected and if so whats the
pin layout for them??

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi shawn,

no, it works off the lcd power which is on the muli-wired cable that
plugs into the verticle pins, NOT the lcd backlight power (unused on
the vfd- remove that cable)

I was kinda afraid to post how I modded my 440 to have the VFD....
Although it LOOKS AMAZING! i did have to use a hacksaw (you could do
it with a dremel) to widen up the stand-off area on the display board
to allow the 440's original stand-offs to fit. I'm definately going to
have to post a photo. I basically cut two plastic strips from a
seedling planter tray, and constructed straps with holes for the
stand-offs and strapped the display in place, and tightened down all
the way! it was very crafty, looks clean -- but that part about the
hacksaw is a little sketchy--

photos uploaded in a few mins, showing the inside!

later,
ben

Re: vacuum florescent display replacement>440

2008-08-03 by shawnrudiman

ben,

yeah i got it to work!, i guess the connector wasnt seated right. i
re-used the original 14 pin segment off the lcd. de-soldered and re-
soldered it on the vfd. i was able to rig it so that the nuts on the
posts were re-used on 2 posts (catty corner fom each other) and
turned like 2 turns if that. so as long as im not throwing the 440
around.. its totally cool. also desoldered switches to checkout and
move...

the switches are 12 mm tacs that are molded to the sprung base of the
cap.( the cap itself is latched over the back of the base with 2 tiny
plastic latches. i broke one half trying to get one apart and figures
id better not break both. ) but i guess worst case (switch totally
functionless) you could dremel off the tac and replace it with
another 4 pin 12mm tac thats epoxy'd or j-b welded onto the original
switch base. i moved the midi fucntion switch to the sample edit
position and vice versa.. that one gets MUCH more use. im going to
figure out either a replacement or repair if it kills me.

also added a yellow led at the top kit/inout level led position.
(just for kicks) might change out the ones on the sapler, sequencer
and system sections. just for fun. and also replaced the data
slider...
the slider they send you is the wrong type as well. its an
exponential slider, not logarhytmic. half length is not half on
slider value. agggggggr. maybe original but in my mind not correct.
gonna look for a log slider thats even close in throw and dremel out
the face plate to match length.

so its now pretty a pretty jacked out 440 with the scsi cf card
drive, new slider , vfd and simple led switchout. the cf crad drive
is the shit. you should do it.

ill try and post a picture or 2 this week.

thanks for the help!
