Replacing NiCD - on Trident and Kawai SX210

Replacing NiCD - on Trident and Kawai SX210

2005-05-09 by gil_we

After replacing the NiCD battery with a Lithium in my Polysix, I'd
like to do the same with my Korg Trident MKII and Kawai SX-210.

On the Trident schematics, the battery circuit looks just the same as
on the Polysix, so I guess the exact same procedure should be
applied -
cutting out the capacitor marked C27 and replacing R29 with a 1N4148
diode (what I used on the P6), so the 1N4148 cathode facing the anode
of C27 and the cathode of D15. Can anyone confirm that ?

And what should be done on the SX210 in order to convert to Lithium ?

The diagrams of the battery section on both synth are here:

click the link for "schematics"

Thanks !

Yes. See as follows:

Remove dead cell:

Remove R29:

http://www.oldcrows.net/~oldcrow/synth/korg/tri_mkii/tm2_r29.jpg

Remove C27:

http://www.oldcrows.net/~oldcrow/synth/korg/tri_mkii/tm2_c27.jpg

Get some new parts:

http://www.oldcrows.net/~oldcrow/synth/korg/tri_mkii/tm2_newparts.jpg

Solder the diode and socket in, and pop in the coin cell:

http://www.oldcrows.net/~oldcrow/synth/korg/tri_mkii/tm2_newbatt.jpg

The diode's band (cathode) should connect to the other diode's cathode
when mounted in the R29 position correctly.

I should really write the repair procedure for these pictures someday as
I took them like 5 years ago...

Thanks,

how about the SX210 ?

should I replace the 1.5K resistor with a diode (the same way - a
1N4148 with the positive side of the diode facing the positive side
of the battery) ?

To see the picture, copy the link and paste in the address bar ...

(BTW Crow, I think it sould be great if you could make a link to the
Trident schematics on your site; I can also send you the one for the
MKII)

Yes, that should work.

Thanks,

btw what is the capacitor for in the Tridet/P6 circuit, that the
SX210 lacks of ?
