Etcetera - "Tales of Ardour and Deceit" (2003). My own band and release. But it has a lot of PolySix on it. /Frank -----Oprindelig meddelelse----- Fra: Jonas Brogren [mailto:jonasbrogren@hotmail.com] Sendt: 11. marts 2004 11:56 Til: PolySix@yahoogroups.com Emne: [PolySix] poly 6 on records Do you know any CDs/ LPs where the poly 6 explicitly is used ? Didn\ufffdt Europe used it for the "Final Countdown" (the main lead) around a bunch of DX7/DX9 Synths? Stef Jonas Brogren wrote:

The sound could easily be the P6, and the time is right. It's just that "Final Countdown" is the ultimate 80'ies kitch song. And to think that it was done on a P6 is just too cool. You also mentioned something about "around a bunch of DX7s". What do you mean? Do you mean to say "played in unison" or "backed up by" the DX7? I have my P6 in a two keyboard setup, with a DX7 at the bottom and the P6 at the top. I could have sworn that FM and analog synthesis doesn't go well together, but I have to admit that they really complement each other nicely. No, I don't have any "FM Rhodes" sounds in my DX7. I hate that sound. I have built a number of brass and ensemble sounds on the DX7 with some analog character to them. Played in unison with the P6 the sound gets even fatter than the P6 is already.

I once (10+ years ago) read an article in a German Keyboard magazine that the composer of the famous "The Final Contdown" (analog synth) brass riff got his hands on a Polysix and he was so inspired of the brass sounds that he composed this tune. As far as I remember the recorrding was not taken with the Polysix. (The reason why I did not keep a copy of this article ;-) ) dko4342@vip.cybercity.dk wrote:

IMO most 80\ufffds Bands which used Synthesizers could deal better with Synths as most actual Bands, which only wanna arrive with software the most complex sounds. According to my opinion is that nowadays no more art. >And to >think that it was done on a P6 is just too cool. >You also mentioned something about "around a bunch of DX7s". What >do you mean? Unfortunaly you cannot see the Synth which plays the main-lead (it stands before him and you cannot recognize anything except brown wood). Greetings Stef

They appear to be too deep to be DX7s. And what is that thing mounted on the top keyboard. I am sure it's a programmer of some sort. That could indicate a DCO-based analog synth. A JX8P perhaps? Of course to deserve respect an 80'ies band just HAD to have a DX7 somewhere. Frank

They both look to me like JX-8P, the upper is with the PG800 proably. Actually I just went and downloaded the song (curious...) and I think it does sound a JX machine. --- In PolySix@yahoogroups.com, Stefan Rinass <st@r...> wrote: > H Frank, > > >Hmmm. If I hear right, I guess the arpeggio line at the start of Tears for Fears "start of the break down" is a P6. --- In PolySix@yahoogroups.com, Stefan Rinass <st@r...> wrote: > Didn´t Europe used it for the "Final Countdown" (the main lead) around a

I remember a concertvideo where a Korg DW-8000 was used for the riff. I have a DW-8000 and it could easily create that brass sound. /Hjulskov
