Rebuilt 367 board issues

Rebuilt 367 board issues

2011-09-22 by roboliot@sbcglobal.net

Thanks to everyone here, this is an amazing place. That said, I am completely stumped with my rebuild.

I just recently finished up my KLM 367 rebuild, and everything looks fine. I reused the rare ICs, the clock, and some other parts that made sense to salvage.

I had purchased this P6 knowing that it had suffered from corrosion on the computer board. It had about 30 blown tracks, all in the common areas. When I received the unit, it did make some sound, but had the typical blown battery issues(all the patch lights were stuck on, a lot of the functionality didn't work, etc). Now after the 367 replacement, I am not getting any sound at all in manual mode. There is no sound read, but I didn't think there would be anything there, as the RAM would be blank. I can tell that the output amp is working because because I am hearing the noise floor, which I can attenuate using the volume knob. The patch computer seems to be working, as I can change groups and patches as it should work.

Here are some other things I noticed: The MG led is constantly illuminated, and doesn't change when I adjust the rate. Pressing the Unison, arpeggiator, poly buttons, do not appear to do anything at all.

This is the first synth repair/build I have done, but I have been picking up a lot. I have a decent background with computers and some electronic knowledge. This is probably something easy, that my amateur skill set is over looking.

Thanks

Here's something that gives food for thought:

The latter means that there is some problem with the KLM366 board (or
perhaps with the interconnects or the power supply). The key assigner and
its control are NOT handled by the 367; they are completely independent.

Does the Arpeggiator LED blink?

The MG issue could be caused by forgetting to fix the two missing traces on
the clone board. Did you complete the two bug fixes mentioned on Jed's site:

Also double check your transistor orientation. Some of the modern
replacements have different pinouts than the old ones, so if you used any
old ones they could be out of order. I know this issue has caught a couple
builders in the past.

I will look at the 366 today.

The Arp LED does blink, and the rate changes as I turn the speed pot clockwise as usual.

Der,

I had read about the bugs with the missing tracks... I guess I forgot to implement them... as well as the stock transistors in the wrong orientation. Still at work and won't be able to dig at it until later.

One more q about the 366B. What could possible me the most common culprit in causing the keyboard to stop functioning all together? Would it be the key assigner DAC circuitry? I once had an issue with a SCI Sixtrak that had a bad keyboard scanner that made it act really crazy with whacky tuning stability, but it still output a sound when I pushed down keys. I will look into this and the supply voltages when I get home tonight.

Thanks again for everyone's help and comments.
