Trident mkI filter problem

Trident mkI filter problem

2007-08-23 by roisto

I just got this synth and it has something wrong with 7th and 8th
voices. When i´m adjusting eg intensity, filters for the last two
voices are working opposite way :) i opened it and found that all the
vcf:s were SSMT2044 except voice 8 wich was SSM2044 (maybe someone
has changed one or all of them?!) and MC14066B chip at the 8th voice
has been replaced with F 4066BPC (having "indiana" text on it)..
anyways battery was brand new inside the trident, and everything else
seems to work 100%. Any ideas how to fix this?

What do you mean by "opposite way" ??

The replacements seems fine to me.

I mean that filter of the last two oscillators has somehow turned to
work negative. When cutoff filter is opened, one oscillator plays it
closed (like lowpass effect), and vice versa, when filter is closed,
one oscillator plays filter totally opened. Two modes at the Eg-mode
seems to change this effect between 7th and 8th osc. Thank you for
you reply.

Does it happen only to one of the 8 oscillators ? if so, replace its
SSM2044 chip....

thanks, i will try that. it does happen with 7th and 8th oscillators,
but only one at time. changing eg-mode seems to affect wich one is
malfunctioning.

Very strange.... any battery leakage ?

Also, you may want to try to replace any logic IC connected directly
with the problematic control, placed on the front panel's pcb...

Re: Trident mkI filter problem

fixed! my friend specialized to repair old gear replaced some IC´s. he
told me that someone has earlier tried to fix it also, and there was
some amateur-soldering made. someone had manually, by soldering,
tresspassed two IC´s functions. how weird is that :)

thanks for helping!
