Tuning problem on Polysix

Tuning problem on Polysix

2006-06-25 by Mike Thompson

I recently had my Polysix KLM-367 board serviced through Old Crow (replacement, rather)
and just got it back a few days ago. Unfortunately I needed to re-calibrate the oscillators
and tune them since it sat for so long not being used. But the tuning is still off - not really
a seperate oscillator problem so much as I can't get it to the right pitch using the tune
knob. Even at the max to the right (sharp) I cannot get the unit to hit a perfect a-440.
And just to clear up the dummy-factor, I even made sure that the tune knob was set at
dead-center when I began the oscillator tuning, so i would have flexibility in both
directions if the tuning shifted. I am about to re-do the process but I am curious if
anyone else has suggestions as to why this may happen even though I kept the pot at the
center? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

You can check the message history to find that a few P6 owners are having a
tuning problem. The most likely culprit, it seems, is that an opto-isolator
(HTV-P1501) has failed which in turn is rendering the tune-high useless...so
the board won't tune correctly.

I've been unable to find a replacement opto-isolator - or a datasheet even.

If you - or anyone else for that matter - finds a supplier for these ICs, or
has a replacement circuit (even better) please let us all know.

Hi,

search the message archive for a message from Peter Andersson on
Tue Feb 10, 2004 3:30 pm (msg #646). He had the same problem and
found a replacement part for the opto isolator. I downloaded the
data sheet then. Now I have uploaded it to the files section of
the list.

Cheers,

Johannes

Re: Tuning problem on Polysix

Ok thanks. It makes sense I guess, but I'm probably going to try tuning it one more time
because I really don't feel like putting any more effort into this keyboard if I can help it. I
just got an OB-8 so I really don't need the P6, but I like the arpeggiator and SSM sound so
that's why I keep it around. Any idea how much that part cost anyway?
