From a quick view of the data sheets: They are kind of similar in that they contain both the VCF. But the 2045 is 18pin / the 2044 is 16pin. The 2045 contains additionally two VCAs and a signal mixer. Furthermore it seems that the 2045 has 2pole input/ output which gives nice different configurations, similar to an MS-20. Wasn't there a later version of the MS-20 which used an integrated filter as opposed to the "discrete" filter used on early models? The (discrete) filter of an MS-20 sounds absolutely stunning when modified for 4-pole operation.
