Anyone tried out the Boss RE20?
Here is Roland's description...
The Rebirth of a Roland Classic
One of the most beloved echo effects ever made, the Roland RE-201 Space
Echo, has been reborn as the BOSS RE-20 Twin Pedal! Roland and BOSS have
recreated every sonic detail and nuance of the original. Experience the legendary
tape-echo sound of the RE-201, and get “lost in space” with this retro-modern
marvel.
* Amazing simulation of the famous Roland RE-201, with the spacious,
analogue tone of the original Space Echo
* Faithful modelling of the RE-201’s tape flutter and magnetic head
sound saturation
* Tap input pedal allows delay time to be set by foot
* Longer delay time than the original RE-201
* Control parameters such as REPEAT RATE, INTENSITY, and more via
Expression pedal
* MODE SELECTOR knob with 12 placements just likes the original Space
Echo

I have had the Re 20 for about a month. I love this pedal!! It works for
guitar, Mellotrons and synthesizers. It is laid out like a mini re201. I was
just playing with it tonight with my guitar, my mellotrons and lastly my Macbeth
M5. You can really dial in a great echo with all the parameters and it has a
new twist effect. This basically is the echoes increasing in speed and
timber. Think Steve Miller at the beginning of Fly like an eagle when the effect
speeds up in tempo and frequency as well. For US$ 249 you can't go wrong.
Really sounds sweet with mellotrons as you can dial in the delay you want for
that accurate echo/repeat rate and intensity.
Stores cannot keep them in stock. If you seriously
interested go to Harmony Central and read the user reviews. The reverb section
of the Re 20 I don't use as I have an old Premier 90 tube tank that sounds
fantastic!!

I also heard a few sound bytes from the Led Zeppelin show last night in
London and they sounded fantastic. Did anyone on the list have the pleasure to
see them last night?

best. Of the out of production tape delays the RE are the best and
easiest to revive the fidelity is amazing and dreadful if allowed to
get clogged You just need back lubricated tape to make it work
properly, Crack open an 8t rack or a radio cart and you have a tape
loop. The new Fulltone is very good. The RE201 pedal is wonderful.
I have thought for a while that the logical progression for Streetly
would be to do a delay, echo, loop sort of thing. Aside from ATR who
else concerns themselves with tape these days ? All kinds of ideas
remain to be explored in that field that do not require more than
spare bits in a Mellotron factory. Like I really know what I am
talking about :)

--I have a lexicon that I do not like on the Mellotron so I strongly recomend going with the space echo. I loved the echoplex and had a dynachord that was very nice- both dead and gone. you have to love the dirty things that happen with tape delay- In newmellotrongroup@yahoogroups.com, "Tony" <atm655@...> wrote: > > In my opinion I'd forget the tape devices and go digital. > I have 2 new space echoes. > Ton > #510 > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Chris Dale > To: newmellotrongroup@yahoogroups.com > Sent: Wednesday, December 12, 2007 12:55 AM > Subject: Re: [newmellotrongroup] Anyone know of a roland 301 space echo for sale > > > > Question: > > > Does anyone know how the old RE compares with the old Echoplexes? > > I have an old Echoplex EP3 I think - (it's in storage right now which is a pain!), and Rick Blechta has a newer one which sounded breathtaking when I heard it. > > What are the opinions of our list?? > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: gino wong > To: newmellotrongroup@yahoogroups.com > Sent: Wednesday, December 12, 2007 12:12 AM > Subject: Re: [newmellotrongroup] Anyone know of a roland 301 space echo for sale > > > I prefer the re201 or the 101 over the 301. I had an Echoplex from the '60s that I used for my entire time with Devotion for the mellotron. Sadly, it disappeared with several other pieces of my equipment when the band broke up. When I had my FX Console rebuilt by Streetly and Jim Krueger, I spent the cash to buy one of the new Echoplexes (http://www.superpage.com/riffs/desc_maestro_echoplex.html). It was expensive, about $1200, but as Chris said, it sounds fabulous. My feeling is that a SpaceEcho, if it can be got for less, would be equally as good. The chorus effect can be quite good, but if you have to pay the big bucks for a tape delay, an Echoplex is the way to go. Making new tapes is a snap if you have a bit of skill with a razor blade, a splicing block (if you can find one of those!) and splicing tape. Rick

Old subject, I know. But I just received a Boss RE-20 and I'm really liking it. I've never owned a Roland Space Echo so I can't compare them, but I think the RE-20 is a nice sounding, compact little unit. So far I've only tried it on my synthesizers.com modular, but I'm looking forward to trying it with my Tron and guitars. If you have an interest, I got it from this eBay page for $217, shipping included: http://tinyurl.com/2jcr98 Bernie --- In newmellotrongroup@yahoogroups.com, JMoore6397@... wrote: > > I have had the Re 20 for about a month.
